Ben Thompson represents clients on corporate and complex commercial transactions with specific focus on intellectual property assets. Prior to co-founding Thompson Bukher LLP, Ben practiced at Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP, where he focused on intellectual property, securities, and corporate governance.

His group has developed particular expertise in international capital and securities placement transactions; supporting businesses in industries including manufacturing, e-commerce, software, and entertainment.

Recent transactions include:

  • Tender offer of public accounts receivable management firm.
  • Acquisition of national, lifestyle magazine.
  • Cross-border capital raise for food industry retail company.
  • Merger and sale of foreign design firm’s US subsidiaries.

Ben has served as an adjunct professor of law, teaching Negotiation Strategy at Cardozo School of Law, and coached the school’s mediation and negotiation competition teams.

Ben earned his J.D. from Cardozo School of Law. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Texas A&M University.


Ben is admitted to the New York State bar and to the Federal District Court for the Southern District of New York.
