Ben Thompson represents clients on corporate and complex commercial transactions with specific focus on intellectual property assets. Prior to co-founding Thompson Bukher LLP, Ben practiced at Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP, where he honed his expertise in intellectual property, securities, and general corporate governance.

Ben’s recent representative matters include:

  • M&A: Tender offer and reverse-triangular-merger in public distressed asset management company.
  • M&A: Total asset buyout of popular Internet-based lifestyle magazine.
  • General Counsel: Ongoing support of preferred technology vendor to Fortune 1000 leaders.
  • General Counsel: Ongoing support of public distressed asset management portfolio group.
  • General Counsel: Ongoing support of major lifestyle publication.

Ben’s group has developed particular expertise in international venture capital and securities placement transactions, supporting businesses in industries including manufacturing, e-commerce, software development and entertainment.

Ben has served as an adjunct professor of law, teaching Negotiation Strategy at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, and coaches the school’s mediation and negotiation competition teams.

Ben earned his Juris Doctorate from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Texas A&M University.


Ben is admitted to the New York State bar and to the Federal District Court for the Southern District of New York.
